Easy & Meaningful Mother’s Day Activities for Little Learners — Full of Freebies!
Mother’s Day is a special time to celebrate the amazing moms, grandmas, aunts and special people in our students’ lives. It’s one of those classroom celebrations that always feels extra sweet, watching students proudly create heartfelt gifts and keepsakes to take home.
These are activities I’ve used in my own classroom over the years and I hope you find something you can use with your little learners too!
1. Heart Purse Craft
This adorable heart-shaped purse craft makes a sweet keepsake that families will treasure. Students love decorating the purses and completing the “favorite things” pages inside. I always enjoy seeing the unique responses and creative touches they add to make each purse feel extra special.
One of my favorite things about this activity is how easily it can be adapted for different learners. Some students complete the writing pages independently while others express their ideas through drawings. I also included different inside page options for moms, grandmas, aunts and other special people so every student can create something meaningful for someone important in their life during Mother’s Day.
Here’s a look inside! ♥︎
2. Portrait Activity
This is another sweet activity for children to celebrate someone they love on Mother’s Day! Children can draw a portrait of their loved one and add special details like hair, clothes, jewelry and favorite colors to make it unique. It’s a simple keepsake page that encourages creativity while creating a meaningful memory families can treasure.
To help support students who may feel unsure about drawing, I also like providing simple face templates or directed drawing steps. This helps build confidence while still allowing students to be creative and make their portraits their own. The completed pages make such sweet keepsakes!
3. Mother’s Day Directed Drawing
Here’s an easy directed drawing to help support your class while creating their special someone. Just save the picture and display it on your classroom screen or interactive whiteboard for children to follow along.
4. Fingerprint Cards
These Mother’s Day fingerprint cards combine tracing, creativity and fine motor practice into one activity.
Students cut out the card templates and glue them onto folded colored paper to create a handmade card for someone special.
Front Cover:
The front cover includes two text options, “Happy Mother’s Day” and “I Love You,” so students can personalize their cards for moms, grandmas, aunts and other special people. Students can trace the text, color the words or write their own message using the blank writing lines. Both color and black-and-white pages are included.
Inside Card:
Inside the card, students create fingerprint art activities like this flower vase. Once completed, the pages can be glued onto folded colored paper.
Other fingerprint art designs included are:
💕 Heart
🎈 Balloons
🌈 Rainbow

Mother’s Day activities don’t need to be complicated to be meaningful. Simple crafts, drawing activities and writing prompts can create memorable keepsakes families truly cherish.
Whether your students are making a heart-shaped purse craft, drawing a portrait or completing a writing activity, these activities help students express love, creativity and appreciation in a fun and engaging way.
I hope these activities help make Mother’s Day extra special for your students and families!
