Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes Book Companion Activities
Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes is a classic and one of those books that never gets old! The story is wonderfully repetitive and it’s a fun way for kids to learn about colors as Pete’s white shoes magically change with each adventure.
There’s even a song version that students love singing along to! You can check it out on YouTube by clicking here.
To make the story even more engaging, I like pairing it with simple, hands-on activities such as these:
I Love My Shoes Mini Book
Students read along and trace or write sentences about the colors in the story. There’s also an option where they can color the shoes any color they like and finish the sentence. I didn’t grab a photo of that one but it’s included in the download!
Three mini book versions are included to support different learning levels:
✏️ Color & Trace (Numbered Arrows) – students see the stroke order for each letter with numbers and arrows to guide proper letter formation as they trace
✏️ Color & Trace (Dashed Letters) – students trace over the dashed lines to practice handwriting (shown above)
✏️ Color & Write – students write the words on their own, ideal for independent writing practice
Decorate Your Own Shoe
Students get to personalize their own shoes! They can color them, add patterns or designs and even decorate with fun shoe patches. It's always exciting to see what design each student comes up with!
For students who are still developing their fine motor skills, they can use paper cutouts. I like using these craft punches from Daiso to make the paper cutouts! You can also find similar ones on Amazon.
You’ll notice there are two shoe templates in the download, one is shown here and the other is a different style of shoe that I didn’t snap a photo of. I couldn’t decide between the two shoe templates so I included both! These pages can also be used to tie into Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes.
