Pete the Cat Headband Craft

Pete the Cat is such a beloved character and here’s a simple, fun craft that students will love to wear! This headband is a great way to keep the excitement going after a read-aloud and makes storytime feel extra memorable. It’s perfect for dress-up, storytime or even as a just-for-fun activity that students can enjoy in class and proudly take home.

What You’ll Need

  • Printed headband template (colored cardstock or construction paper works best)

  • Scissors

  • Glue stick (for attaching the pieces)

  • Crayons or markers (if using the coloring version)

  • Tape or stapler (to secure the headband)

Different Versions Included

To make this craft work for any classroom setup, I’ve included a few different options:

💙 Ready-to-Go Version – everything is already attached, just cut, add the headband strip and you’re done! This one is perfect if you’re short on prep time or want a quick craft after storytime.

💙 Single Student Version – all of the pieces are on one page (except for the extra headband strips), so each student can cut and assemble their own headband from just that sheet. This also makes a great early finisher activity or something simple to send home.

💙 Class Version – each page has multiple copies of the same piece (e.g. a whole page of eyes), so you can cut and divide them among students. This makes it easier for students to cut since the pieces are separated.

💙 Traceable Template – use this page to trace all the parts onto colored paper, then give students the traced pieces to cut and assemble.

Directions

1. Choose and print the template on cardstock or construction paper. Regular paper works too if that’s what you have on hand!

If you’re using the black-and-white version, let students color their pieces first before cutting and assembling.

2. Cut out the cat face pieces (face, eyes, nose) and the headband strips. For younger learners, you may want to pre-cut the smaller pieces ahead of time or have an adult nearby to assist.

3. Glue the eyes and nose onto the face.

4. Glue the cat face onto the headband strip.

5. Add the extra headband strips. Secure the band with tape or a staple where the strips overlap. To fit, gently wrap the band around the child’s head so it sits comfortably, then tape or staple the ends together to complete the circle.

6. Quick safety check for staples! You can add tape over them for extra security if you like.

And… the headband craft is complete! 🎉

Optional: Add some whiskers for a cute finishing touch! 🐱
